Announcements    

1. None.

Interests 

2. Dr Carol Beevers declared an interest in item 5 – RP1765 and was therefore absent from any discussions surrounding the Application. 

Item 1: Welcome and apologies 

3. The Chair welcomed Members and the Secretariat.

4. Apologies were received from Dr William Peveler and Dr Claude Lambre of the AEJEG, and Ms Natasha Adams of the FSA Secretariat.

Item 2: RP41 Oral Update on Committee Advice Document Application for Extension of use of curcumin (E 100) to a new food category “egg analogues”. 

5. An oral update on the progression of Application RP41 was delivered to the AEJEG. RP41 had been previously presented to the Committee on Toxicity on the 15th of July and the AEJEG on the 4th of June 2025. The outcome of the COT meeting was presented to the AEJEG

6. It was agreed that the proposed amendments would be implemented and the CAD be sent to Members for approval and further comments. Following this, it was stated the CAD would be cleared by the COT through Chair’s action. Members were told that a summary document would be prepared for the COT to highlight the alterations that would be made. 

 

Item 3: RP1457 Update on Application for Authorisation of the substance glycolipids (E 246) for use as a new food additive AEJEG/2025/16 

7. No interests were declared by Members  

8. The AEJEG were presented with an update paper regarding Application RP1457. This Application requests the authorisation of the substance Glycolipids (E 246) also known as AM-1, for use as a new food additive.  

9. The AEJEG had first been presented the Application in February 2023. The AEJEG had also reviewed this Application in their July 2023, September 2023, April 2024 and June 2024 meetings in which the AEJEG had agreed a Committee Advice Document (CAD) would be drafted.  

10. It was agreed that an RFI and reply to the Applicant would be drafted to reflect the discussions held in the meeting and would be shared with Members for approval. 

Item 4: RP1765 Update paper for the application for the authorisation 2,4-Dimethyl-5-vinylthiazole [FL-no: 15.005], 4-Methyl-5-vinylthiazole [FL-no: 15.018] and 4,5-Dimethyl-2-isobutyl-3-thiazoline [FL-no: 15.032] for their use as a food flavourings.  AEJEG/2025/17. 

11. Due to a direct conflict of interest, Dr Carol Beevers was not present for the discussion of this item.    

12. The AEJEG considered the Application for the authorisation of 2,4-Dimethyl-5-vinylthiazole [FL-no: 15.005], 4-Methyl-5-vinylthiazole [FL-no: 15.018] and 4,5-Dimethyl-2-isobutyl-3-thiazoline [FL-no: 15.032] for their use as food flavourings under Assimilated Regulation (EC) No 1331/2008. 

13. Having reviewed all of the information provided by the Applicant, the AEJEG agreed that an RFI would be sent to the Applicant. 

Item 5: RP1765 Committee Advice Document for the application for the authorisation 2,4-Dimethyl-5-vinylthiazole [FL-no: 15.005], 4-Methyl-5-vinylthiazole [FL-no: 15.018] and 4,5-Dimethyl-2-isobutyl-3-thiazoline [FL-no: 15.032] for their use as a food flavourings. AEJEG/2025/18 (Reserved). 

14. The AEJEG was presented with and asked to evaluate the draft Committee Advice Document for regulated products Application RP1765. 

15. The AEJEG was unable to form conclusions with the information provided and agreed that an RFI would be sent to the Applicant.  

Item 6 – Minutes of the previous meeting  

16. Minutes of the 17th July 2025 meeting were accepted as an accurate representation of the AEJEG’s discussions, subject to minor editorial clarifications.

17. Members were reminded of the 30-day window for submitting claims. 

18. The next AEJEG meeting will be held virtually on the 15th of October 2025.
